Environmental Permitting Specialist

Nexus Environmental Consultants Inc. is seeking an Environmental Permitting Specialist for work in Northern Nevada. Duties include, but are not limited to: preparing permitting documents, coordinating permitting teams and associated deliverables, assisting in project management, drafting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents/sections, assisting with administrative records, and coordinating with federal and state agencies. Other tasks may be included based on workload.

Work Duties

The successful candidate must be team-oriented and able to assist with drafting and coordinating permitting documents, be located or willing to relocate to Nevada, Idaho, or Colorado, and possess the following job knowledge, skills and abilities, including:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • Ability to critically think about the available information and determine if it meets NEPA sufficiency or identify specific additional information that would be required for NEPA sufficiency.
  • Possess excellent writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with large and diverse groups.
  • Possess willingness to assist with additional project-related tasks as needed.
  • General familiarity with baseline studies relating to biology, geology, wildlife, noise, air quality, wetlands, socioeconomic, visual resources, and other key areas.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and general familiarity with a variety of agency regulations.
  • Clearly communicate with other team members including project managers, technical editors, resource specialists, and GIS specialists.
  • Assist with authoring or directing others to author environmental documents, as needed.
  • Attend in-person meetings or site visits with various agencies and clients, as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous experience assisting on CFR 3809 permitting projects (Notice-level or larger).
  • Experience working with the Nevada Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation
  • Ability to review and comprehend scientific data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, wildlife biology, environmental planning, anthropology, hydrogeology, or similar.
  • Three or more years’ experience in similar field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite and Adobe PDF.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with others.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to safety and safety protocols and standards.
  • Ability to work remotely and stay motivated and on task.
  • Attend in-person meetings or site visits with various agencies and clients which may include overnight stays.

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Ability to create 508-compliant documents per Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as amended.
  • Previous experience drafting Plan of Operations documents for minerals exploration projects.
  • Working understanding of ArcMap Geographic Information Systems
